Regatta & Regatta Dinner/Dance

Regattas have a long history at the lake, going all the way back to the Lake Louisa Fish and Game Club who sponsored regattas in 1923. Even then the spirit of community was evident.

For 100 years members have worked and competed to be the Aggregate Winners. Aggregate awards were given for both boys and girls in the following groups: 10 and under, 12 and under, 14 and under, Intermediate (15-17), and Senior (18 and over).

To collect the ‘aggregate points’, participants take part in the Long Distance Swim, and the Around the Island Canoe Race in the weeks leading up to the ‘Senior Regatta Day. There have been variations over the years in the distances of these courses too.

REGATTA – AROUND THE ISLAND CANOE RACE: Teams of two from, the same age category, race around the island. This is a regatta event taking place 2 weeks before the Regatta and starts at 10am and counts towards aggregate points.

REGATTA – LONG DISTANCE SWIM: Long distance swim, distances vary based on age group. This is a regatta event taking place the weekend before the Regatta, starts at 10ams and counts towards aggregate points.

REGATTA DAY: The busiest day of the season, the competition, which consists of swimming, kayaking, and canoeing events for all ages, starts at 10 a.m. SHARP and ends when the events are done! Spectators & participants can buy a BBQ lunch. Aggregate winners will be announced at the diner that evening and trophies presented at the talent show.

Aggregate Points are based on points accumulated by placing 1st (5 points), 2nd (4 points), 3rd (3 points), 4th (2 points), 5th (1 point) in the events of your age group.

Age as of July 1st will determine your group. Should 3 entrants of one group not be available when an event is called, it will be declared open for all participants of an age group one level lower. These participants will be eligible for ribbons, but not aggregate points.

To ensure no shortage in equipment, members are asked to please bring their canoe, kayak, and paddles as well as yourself.
